Essential Oil Feature: Turmeric Essential Oil

Turmeric Essential Oil

Description: You may recognize turmeric from your kitchen but did you know it has several health benefits? Turmeric has a spicy, woody aroma and is full of antioxidants that helps cells grow, which can be beneficial in several respects. Research suggests it has antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. It may also be protective for the heart, liver, kidneys and digestive tract. A substance in turmeric, called curcumin, is an especially powerful anti-inflammatory agent.

Uses: The uses of turmeric essential are widespread and based on its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It has been used for conditions including: acne and other skin blemishes, to promote healthy hair and scalp, inflammation and pain, immune system boost, cough and cold, heart health, oral health and even been studied in cancer. There are many ways to use this great essential oil whose benefits are abundant!

It may also be taken orally in the powder form in a capsule. You should be able to find this at your local grocery store or vitamin/supplement store. If you take medications that are blood thinners, you may want to avoid turmeric as it could cause an increased risk of bleeding.

Recipe for Joint Pain Relief:

1 oz Fractionated Coconut Oil

20-24 drops Turmeric Essential Oil

 

*This recipe is for a 3% dilution. For a short amount of time, it would be acceptable to use this recipe at a 3-5% dilution for joint pain. Always start with a low dilution, and increase as necessary and tolerated.
