The Best Bible Verses for Your Prayer Space
If you’ve watched my video on How to Make a Prayer Corner, you’ve seen a little bit of how my prayer space is set up. I have a comfortable chair in the corner of my bedroom. It is near a window so I can look out and appreciate God’s creation. And I also have several of my favorite quotes from books, speakers and bible verses on a posterboard. I have this hanging on one of the walls in the corner so I can meditate on some of those words which hold so much meaning for me. I wanted to share 5 of my favorite bible verses from my prayer corner that will hopefully provide you with some inspiration!
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13: 6-8
This is such a popular verse and for good reason! It was part of the reading at my wedding ceremony and I still feel that it resonates with me so much. The word in this verse that stands out to me is ALWAYS. True love is such a constant and unwavering “YES” to doing what is good for another. Putting others before ourselves can be so difficult sometimes! As human beings, we are naturally inclined to think selfishly. It takes an act of the will to put others first.
I try to apply this verse to my relationship with my husband of course, but it can be helpful to meditate on this verse before the day has begun. It is these words that give me hope and inspire me to love every person I meet throughout the day to the best of my ability.
“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5
Now this verse is my absolute favorite to pray with when I feel beaten down and wanting to give up. For me it is one of the the best bible verses to encourage perseverance. How many times do we think we have life figured out when the rug gets pulled out from under us? We are naïve to think that nothing unfortunate will ever happen to us in this life. In fact, Jesus never promised life would be easy. What he did say was that he would be with us through all of it. And we can lay our burdens down and follow him. Again, no promise of an easy go around, but with his grace and love we can do the impossible. He wants good things for us, please believe that!
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
The gospel of John has many great verses, but this one is essential for helping me foster trust in Jesus. If I ever feel that a task is too much or I won’t be able to surpass an obstacle, I just need to remember that God is on my side. He has overcome the world, so who or what could ever stand against God?
Even on days where I have nothing on my agenda so I start making plans for the day, I need to think about this verse. What I want to do that day, may not line up with God’s plan for me that day. And I know that when I am following his plan for me, I’m at peace. I’m not running around, trying to get my to-do list finished. This is perhaps my greatest struggle…trusting him in the every day. Nevertheless, we are called to give our entire life over to him.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
Over the last year or two, I have learned that starting the day by giving thanks often paves the way for a joy-filled rest of my day. Taking the time to count my blessings is vital to putting my life in perspective.
As human beings, we tend to gravitate toward the negative. We are always overworked, overwhelmed, exhausted and focus on the things that are going wrong. But how often do we pay attention to the good things? Every single blessing we have is from God…not ourselves, not “the universe”…but God. Once we start acknowledging this, we are one step closer to encountering our heavenly Father who wants only the best for us.
My challenge to you is to pray with this verse and thank God for 3 blessings you have in your life every morning. I promise you, when implemented as part of your daily routine, this practice will not disappoint!
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Do you ever feel like you need courage? Whether you’re speaking out against an injustice, switching careers, ending a toxic relationship or any other leap of faith…this bible verse is for you!
It inspires me to be courageous in those situations where I would rather be cowardly. Instead of trying to predict the outcome of a situation based on my ability, it helps me remember that with him on my side, my strength is renewed. God shines through my weakness. As long as I continue to give those moments, those decisions, those problems to God…he will never disappoint. He knows what is best for me!
Prayer: Father, I pray to keep your holy scriptures in my mind, on my lips and in my heart, all throughout the day. May those precious words inspire me to live my life as an example to others. That I may be a witness to the faith, joyfully proclaiming the truth of salvation. May my words and actions be filled with love, and help me to begin to see others the way you see them.
