Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)
Eucalyptus comes from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree that is native to countries such as Spain, China and Australia. It has a fresh, invigorating scent that is strong at first, but pleasant. This is one of my favorite essential oils to use for cleaning. Just add a couple drops of Eucalyptus and Lemon to your dishwater for an awesome clean scent! I actually have a spray bottle I use for surface cleaning. Kills germs and leaves the kitchen smelling fresh and clean. Win-win right?
Eucalyptus has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It has been shown to inhibit airborne microbes. So if you’re needing an addition to your diffuser this is a perfect choice! It is a mucolytic, meaning it breaks down mucus, and an expectorant, meaning it removes mucus. This is always my go to essential oil for that hacking cough.
It can help improve mental alertness and concentration. If you need to focus, you can dilute a few drops with a neutral carrier oil and apply topically to the wrists and behind the neck.
This is also a great oil for pain. It can help relieve sore muscles and improve headaches.
Safety: This is a non-toxic, non-irritating essential oil. It should not be used in children under 10 years old. Do not use in people with asthma as a precaution. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medications or have a medical condition, consult a health professional prior to use.
